This beautiful girl Hawaiian girl worked in the International Marketplace in Waikiki in a shop located near my portrait studio. She posed several times for portraits for me, and I loved painting her exotic features. Her Auntie made the orchid lei around her neck and the hoku lei she wears in her hair.
I photgraphed her in the gardens of the historic Royal Hawaiian Hotel, a magnificent moorish-inspired structure built in 1927, and affectionately known as "The Pink Palace". I had posed my model in front of the tropical foliage, but she playfully climbed inside the dense "jungle" of tropical plants, and to me, she looked like another beautiful Island Blossom!
This portait is done in pastels on a Swiss-made velour textured paper. It measures 18" x 24".
