Historically Inspired Costumes with Instructor K Howell

I has over 12 years experience as a professional costume designer. She has created everything from sumptuous gowns for the Renaissance Faire, to futuristic gladiator inspired costumes for independent films.
Miss Howell will share her knowledge of costuming through the ages, and teach you to design your own fashions inspired by the clothing of your favorite historical era.

While there is no sewing done in this class, students will learn how clothing is constructed to fit the human body. You will be drawing and coloring your designs, using pencil, colored pencil and watercolor. (Younger students will be allowed to trace the human figure from a sample form and draw their creative fashion designs over the traced figure.)

Older or more advanced students will receive some figure drawing instruction as relates to fashion design, and can draw their own fashion figures.

The advanced classes will also learn how to choose appropriate fabrics for their designs, and students will complete their designs by attaching sample swatches of fabrics and trims to their design boards. Students will also learn about careers for costume designers in the fashion, film, and entertainment industries.
