These tall stately tulips seem to be reaching up to drink in the sunshine! I particularly like the contrast between the fiery reds and warm, buttery yellows of the tulips next to the cool, deep untramarine blue of the pansies growing alongside them.

This painting is the first of a series that I am working on which is based on photgraphs I took last spring at Descanso Gardens, in La Canada, California.
