{This scene depicts one of my favorite locations for plein air painting in the L.A. area: the Los Angeles County Arboretum. Located just across the road from Santa Anita Racetrack, where scenes from the movie Seabiscuit were filmed, Arcadia's Arboretum has also appeared as a scenic backdrop in many Hollywood films and television shows.

This beautifully landscaped park boasts a natural artesian spring-fed pond surrounded with lush tropical foliage and groves of tall stately palms. The opening scenes of television's Fantasy Island were filmed at this location, as well as scenes from Speilberg's Jurassic Park. Flocks of migrating ducks and Canada geese are attracted to this oasis and occasionally I will spot graceful long-necked white egrets enjoying the water!
