Altadena is a quiet little suburb of Los Angeles, tucked in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. To most folks, Altadena would seem a fairly non-descript little town, but I am amazed how much beauty I can find right outside my own front door.

One rainy winter afternoon, after having been cooped up inside for hours, I decided to take advantage of a brief halt in the downpour, and went for a walk in the neighborhood. The air was cold and crisp and fresh, and a bracing wind suddenly started blowing. The last few tenacious leaves clung to the branches of the liquidamber trees. The gusts of wind parted the clouds and the last rays of the setting sun bathed the mountains in an ethereal pink glow.
